Most things we ate were grown or picked from the surrounding; rice, vegetables, gingers, peanuts, bamboo shoots, wood ears, walking chicken and honey from bees etc. They use bamboo leaves and long grass threads to make zongzi. Also tofu and soy milk are home made. Talking about ecological living, there is no such thing called garbage here.
It is hard to get in there because of a 3 km rocky dirt off-road from the main road. You pay $10 RMB to ride on a motorcycle and walk a little bit. If it rains, the car or motorcycle will get stuck in the mud. Then you cannot get in or out. The first picture below shows the car needed to be pushed at half way and the view of my cousin's house. The second picture shows the 70+ lady working in the field everyday when we passed this place.

See below 2009 reports on Xinyi.
