Shanxi 山西 Great Wall 長城 2009

A few hour train from Beijing, 大同(Datong) was an ancient northern barbarian place(塞外). 懸空寺(hanging temple) is inside 北嶽恆山(Hengshan) mountain range (60+ km south), and 應縣木塔(Yingxian Pagoda, 70+ km south) is made of woods.

Driving through Yanmen Pass(雁门關), we got to Taiyun(太原, 280 km south) which was inside ancient civilization(關內). 平遙古城(Pingyao Ancient City, 100+ km south of Taiyun) - World cultural heritage site. Outisde ancient city is 雙林寺.
